Grand News Winter 2007
I would like to thank all of you for heartfelt
condolences for our loss. My Aunt Angie passed away
October 10, 2007. Many of you will remember her in
the tasting room of the winery during our weekend
cookouts checking you in for dinner. I could not have
written this better myself, Her Obituary. I have shortened
it to allow for space.
Angela (Schuchter) Roosa “Angie”, 52
of Morrow passed peacefully Wednesday, October 10,
2007 at Bethesda North Hospital of Cincinnati, with
her family by her side following a long illness.
Born March 4, 1955 the daughter of Ken and Marge
(Hamlin) Schuchter, she was a loving mother and
daughter. A 1973 graduate of Little Miami High School,
she had attended Eastern Kentucky University and
was previously employed at General Motors Delco
Moraine and enjoyed working at her families winery,
Valley Vineyards, for the past 30 years.
It’s during times like this that you realize
you, our patrons are not just customers but an extended
family. There are very few business left, where when
you welcomed in…its from the heart. Where you
are not just thanked for the dollar amount you spent,
but for your conversation, company, and your appreciation
of our hard work. When you enter the winery, we welcome
you into our home. Valley Vineyards is a business,
yes. But for us it’s a lifestyle – and
I must say all of you make it enjoyable.
The Summer/Fall season of weekend cookouts has been
amazing…I’m glad so many of you are coming
out to spend an evening with us. The Sunday Cookouts,
from June-October proved to be very popular. Breaking
the 200+ mark many times.
Announcement – Valley Vineyards
has signed with a statewide distributor. This is very
exciting news! Many of our current customers around
Ohio found it wasn’t as easy to come visit us
to pick up their favorite wine…but now, it will
soon be available in your local grocery store/wine
shop.
It’s again time to think about Christmas, My
favorite time of year! We have announced the date
for Light up Valley 2007—A Christmas Feast.
December 6, 2007. You will find complete information
on pg. 3 of the newsletter. I can’t wait for
some of that yummy pork roast. Mmm.
Hope to see you all for Christmas!!

Statewide Distribution
We have signed with Buckeye Distributing, a statewide
wine distributor. This allows us to grow at a capacity
we would have never thought even a few years ago...It’s
very exciting!!! So look for us in any wine shop/grocery
store in the next few months, hopefully we don’t
run out?!? |
Ohio Quality Wines
A new program has been issued in the state for setting
the quality standard for all wines made in Ohio. Wines
must be made with at least 90% grapes grown in Ohio.
The wines will be submitted for sensory and chemical
analysis, wines earning a minimum of 15 out of 20
point scale and correct analysis will be eligible.
51 wines received the award, and Valley Vineyards
was awarded seven of those. One of the highest numbers
awarded to any winery in the state. Look for the gold
seal on our bottles, or ask about our ‘Ohio
Quality Wines” |
Customer Appreciation
Valley Vineyards prides ourselves to be very customer
friendly. We have many, many customers who compliment
us as to how inviting we are. We were very proud to
receive an e-mail reflecting such… we would
like to share it.
"I wanted to write and tell you thank you
for your time. I received 100% on my paper and had
a great deal of fun visiting your family’s winery.
I expected the assignment to be interesting but not
fun. In visiting, I feel that I not only got to know
the winery but the family that owns it as well. My
family and I enjoyed the wine that we purchased and
we are sure to be back for more. My teacher got a
real kick out of the shirt, which I did wear to class.
My friends were pretty envious as well. Thank you
so much for your hospitality. I am sure we will be
seeing you again.
-Angela"
It was very refreshing to see a young College student
take the time to send us an e-mail and we wish her
luck in the future. |

Valley Vineyards Founder Ranked
17th in the World
Wine
Competitions aren’t the only event Valley Vineyards
founder Ken Schuchter has been participating in these
days. At 74 years young, Ken has been training and competing
in Pole Vault competitions. Inspired by a local high
school athlete at his hometown alma mater, Little Miami
(located in Morrow, Ohio), Ken began training last fall
to compete this summer in several Pole Vault events
in Southwest Ohio. Having competed at the high school
level back in 1949 and making it to the State championship
meet, Ken has had prior experience. “To me pole
vaulting is like riding a bike-you never forget...in
fact I remember when bikes were invented,” Ken
said jokingly. After two competitions, Ken has cleared
6’ and is hopeful to clear 7’ this fall.
His 6’ performance ranks him 17th in the world
for men age 70-75 yrs old. We are all so proud of his
accomplishments! |
